Learning through play, or What educators need to know about editing

បានប្រកាសនៅ Technology នៅSeptember 25 2021 at 12:51 PM
When we talk about the gamification of education, we often mean that adult uncles or aunts should take the program material of any subject and pack it in an interesting game shell.

This is often the case ... there is only a problem - children are not attracted to this game, they are simply not interested.

But why? After all, children love to play! They can spend hours going through a difficult level of any "idealess" and "meaningless" game!

And the fact is that an interesting game was created by a team of professional game technicians: psychologists, writers, artists, composers and programmers!

Yes, a game technician is a profession, and, unfortunately, there are very few such professionals in Ukraine.

But wait, maybe we're wrong? Maybe they are, but we're not looking there? Maybe they are just growing and learning? Who but children are practitioners in the field of gamification? Why not give them the opportunity to create such educational games that their friends will want to play?

We tried and we succeeded! Already four generations of 8th-graders at the autumn trimester exam demonstrate the games they have created , which at the same time help to master history and geography, computer science and the Ukrainian language. Just look at the themes on which they create games!

Sumerians and Babylon (3500 - 2000 BC)
Egypt (1300 - 700 BC)
Greece and East Asia (700 - 300 BC)
India, China, Japan and Korea (500 BC - 500 AD)
Rome (300 BC - 300 BC)
Northern Europe and Kievan Rus (400 gg. - 1200 gg. AD) and so on, all the way to Europe in 1700 - 1840 AD.

How does this happen?

The group of "developers" receives the theme according to the draw and starts working. It usually takes about a month to develop.
In order to get a credit, you need to explain to a special jury (consisting of high school students) the rules of the game, demonstrate a block diagram of the game algorithm, and then play this game with the jury and your classmates.

Everyone wins!

The creator of the game receives a test, classmates learn new material, and high school students repeat the past.
We adults will also win, because we are also learning to be the same creative game technicians as our talented children.
