While the majority of characters we've heard about so far are women from the D2R Items canon, other groups and orders of rogues have appeared. That means, like other characters in Diablo 4. you can play either female or male rogues as revealed during an open Q&A session on February 20. The team behind Diablo 4 also wanted to grant you the ability to play your character however you wished, not putting the background story in place to make you feel like you're part of a specific group or to a specific location.
It was known that the player-versus player mode would come back with Diablo 4. but there was no information when it first came out in the year 2019. Now we know how it functions and it's an open-ended approach. There are distinct areas within Sanctuary's open world called the Fields of Hatred where PvP becomes available, and players have the ability to attack each other. You'll be facing AI-controlled, strong opponents in these areas , and collect pieces of hatred, however, you need to purify them to allow exchange of them for exclusive equipment.
To wash away shards that harbor hatred it is necessary to transport them to a certain part of the area and fight through waves of foes for a set amount of time. However, other players within the area will be aware of your presence , and they will rise up to fight you and take the shards for themselves.
It's kind of like the Dark Zone in The Division Diablo 2 Resurrected Items. A nod to Diablo 2's PvP, defeating actual players will reward you with ears. In the moment, it's intended to be an object of collection for the combats you defeat, but could eventually become a form of currency later down the in the future.
